Psihotrope (gr.psyche = suflet + gr.tropos = întoarcere) - Substanțe care influențează tonusul mental în sens deprimant, stimulant sau deviant. Se clasifică în trei grupe:
1. psiholeptice,sedative psihice (hipnotice, tranchilizante, neuroleptice);2. psihoanaleptice,stimulente psihice (psihostimulente antidepresive);
3. psihodisleptice (halucinogene, stupefiante).
